I so agree with this... I found it earlier on a Springer Rescue forum that I frequent... lol..
“Rescue Spaniels aren’t broken, they’ve simply experienced more life than other Spaniels. If they were human we would call them wise, they would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write, the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Don’t pity them, do something, help to rescue, donate, volunteer, foster, adopt. Be proud to have their greatness by your side.”
Especially for Scooby and Truly, my two rescue spaniels. xx

Just sharing ....
A SECOND HAND DOG (BY LU WYLAND)
it's come to my attention that some people don't know about us second-hand dogs. Being that I AM one, I thought I'd tell you a little about me and about us. My sisters, Cali and Mira, came to our house when they were puppies and my Mom had been waiting for them since before they were born. That's not how it happened with me. I got here all grown up and had been waiting for her! She'd been waiting for me too, actually, but she just didn't know it. Sometimes two-legs aren't as smart about things as they think.
I'm a second hand dog, but I've got first rate love. I wag my tail just for you. I practiced for the others that got to me before you, but there's a special wag and a little noise I make just 'specially for when I see you and you've come home to me after being out for a while.
I'm a second hand dog. Sometimes we second hand dogs get to you because somebody who loved us died. Sometimes we get to you because somebody we loved left us. Sometimes we never had anybody before we got you. Sometimes we lived forever in a cage until we don't know how to do anything except spin in circles. We made puppies for people who walk into pet stores to pick up a book or some fishfood and leave with a puppy instead. Mom says dogs aren't meant to be impulse buys, but so far England doesn't know that. She wants to tell people to look me in the eye, both the good one and the one that got ripped open in the puppy farm, and tell me why it's important they have the choice to walk into a store to buy a dog without a plan the way some folks buy a magazine or a pair of socks. But Mom says that isn't very nice of her so she tries to say it in a better way.
We second hand dogs often have old eyes even when we're babies. I think it's because we're used to looking at people who don't see us. Once you DO see us though....our old eyes are sparkly (even if you've got a blind one, like me) while also being soft with love. It can take a long time for the sad to drain out of them though, or the scaredness. You might have to wait a while for that to go away for good. But most of the time, you'll get the soft and cushy love like something you can just rest in. The first time we fall asleep on you, my Mom says it's like somebody gave you the best present ever.
We second hand dogs come with things we know, but there's plenty we don't, so we need you to help us learn what's important in our family. Can I go on the furniture? Where do I eat? How do you want me to let you know when I need to go outside? Can I chase the cats? How should I say hello to people who come to visit? Will you leave me when you take me on a car ride? What if I eat your slippers (because you forgot to tell me I shouldn't and left them where I found them)? I'll learn the things I need to know, but I need you to figure out the lessons and help me practice the homework. I love the sound of that.....HOMEwork. Second hand dogs love practicing their HOMEwork.
So if there's ever a time when you think there might be room for a second hand dog in your family, don't be afraid to bring us home. And for us second hand dogs, just like the dogs that got waited for before they got born, a family is the best thing ever.

Puppy love
Hi all..
I can't believe how much I've blogged this week! I seem to have got alot of work done this week, which is a good thing I guess..
Today, I have made two cards.. one I can't show yet, until it reaches its destination. The other one is this little puppy card.
I am currently working on a set of Christmas cards which are going to be used to raise funds for Bernwood Springer Rescue. I was asked if I would do this by a lovely lady called Sally, who is also one of their fosterers down in Lincolnshire.
The stamp I used is one that I bought last weekend, whilst at Samuel Taylors. Isn't it just the cutest??
Would anyone like to buy any of the Christmas cards I have made this week?
Funds are very much needed, especially at this time of the year when we find lots of grown dogs and puppies coming into Rescue. And as you know, my darlings Scooby and Truly came from rescue, and they have made our home complete! Lord knows what would have happened with them both if a Rescue hadn't taken them in.
If you'd like to buy a card, or order a personalised one, please leave me a comment with your pledge / donation, and I'll be in touch. In fact, if anyone would like to make some Christmas cards for the Rescue, and would like to donate them, please contact me and I'll pass them on.
Take care..

For all the Rescue Fosterers out there...
There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.
And just when I thought you'd done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go.
I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mum, you know I've moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.
But I'll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You'll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.

Wish upon a Star..
Well, I'll make a wish for little Star anyway.. he's my new little foster dog.. a beautiful Blue Roan Cocker called Star, who I introduced you to yesterday.

After a bath yesterday evening, he now looks wonderful, all nice and shiny and smells more of coconutty dog..hehe. We've been putting a little optrex in his eyes since yesterday and the inflammation and soreness does seem a little better.
He gets on okay with Holly and Scooby but does need to learn a few little doggy manners.. lol.. although he's alot better now he's a bit more settled.. The good news is that ***hopefully*** he has a forever home worked out already.. so fingers crossed for him. I'm sure they'll love him to bits..
Here are a few pics..

We're getting a house guest...
This is Star..

He is supposed to be arriving tomorrow evening sometime with his Aunty Sally.
Star is coming into rescue and is a bit stuck for a home for a few days.. so I was asked if I minded helping out.. well.. I have what feels like a house full of springers, so I'm sure a lickle Cocker Spaniel would fit in well... lol.
He sounds like he's a good boy... five and a half years old, lived with dogs, and a bit loud when out walking.. but I'm sure that can be sorted..
I'm sure you'll agree, he looks amazing.. he's a blue roan cocker.. so look out for more photos coming soon. He should only be here for a few days...

What I was up to last night....
No... all you corrupt people...!!!
Meet Jess.
I got a call last night from Sally, who asked if I could help her out and pick up a Springer who was coming into rescue... so of course, I obliged.. and this is what kept me company in the back of the car for a couple of hours or so...
She is absolutely adorable, and hopefully, fingers crossed, has a home already planned. If not.. she's coming back here until she finds one..which I am very sure won't be long..
As soon as I met Jess, she was bounding around and peeing.. (those who know springers know what I mean!) and was utterly adorable.. six months old and full of fluffy, mushy, wushiness!! I lost my heart straight away with the cuddle monster (sssh.. don't tell Holly and Scooby.. lol) but I know now she is being looked after by Sally and the family for the time being..
Martina, my youngest, thought it was cruel to give a dog to rescue, and couldn't understand why anyone would.. but as I told her, it's one of those things that happen in life for all sorts of reasons.. and if it wasn't for Rescue, we wouldn't have had a little (!!) dreamboat like Scooby living with us. And Nikki wouldn't have hers with her..
Nikki too knows about having rescue springers... and believe me.. they really are worth it!
Wishing you lots of luck my little darling!

Disbelief !!!!
This is absolutely bloody disgusting! I go onto a forum about springer spaniels, and chat to my friends on there.. and today, I found this post...
It was about the above mentioned blog..someone had placed a dog into the art gallery in Costa Rica I think, and kept it chained up and left it to starve itself to death whilst people walked past and looked at it..
Well... sorry for upsetting anyone.. but I thought we were supposed to be animal lovers?? The authority's apparantly didn't do anything about it either. I'm just totally stunned... How can someone do this to a poor defenseless animal who would only want to be loved and cuddled, and treated with a little bit of respect?
It makes me sick to my stomach!
if you would like to sign the petition to stop this..go here

A new addition and some news..
Firstly, our new addition.. We have had quite a busy week or so with one thing or another, but yesterday we went to pick up our new little Springer!! We decided a few weeks ago that we were going to get Holly a little friend, and those of you who read my blogs (anyone?? lol) that we had asked about little Lucy, and she had been rehomed. So. we contacted the South Yorkshire English Springer Spaniel Rescue who had got a few dogs they thought were suitable for us. (us being picky, we needed to make sure they were fine with Holly, and also three cats and kids). We went off to see George, who is a great big fluffy lump (see the site for details), as he would have been our first choice.. however, he has always been with his daddy and they pined for each other when they were seperated.. He did play absolutely brilliant with Holly, and even though he is a rather large (!) springer, he is adorable. I would have bought him and his daddy home if I had a large enough house and garden. Then we looked at a little boy called Max., again he is adorable.. such a bundle of fun and he and Holly got on really well, only he was a little too giddy and the cats would probably not have tolerated him (they are 11 nearly, persian house cats). There were so many beautiful needy dogs up there, it was so sad to only have to pick one.. so if anyone is looking for a doggie and is reading this, please please think about a rescue dog?
So, we decided to go for Mitzy. Ahhh, well, what can I say? We don't have any photos of her at the moment as it's still early days but I'm sure that will be remedied..
She is mainly white, a smallish springer like Holly. She has one brown ear and one white, she's around five years old and is a very happy little poochie.. she was a bit snappy/snarly yesterday towards Holly when we got home, but she walks perfectly on the lead (apart from tangling you up. lol) and is quite happy to be fussed and play. I think she was a bit unsure yesterday with everything that happened, which is natural and she needs time to settle in.. but she played outside and walked with Holly quite happily.. This morning, Paul let her out before he went to work, and she and Holly were nuzzling each other kissing, and she was as right as rain.. so hopefully things will go really well and they become great friends and partners in crime.. (unfortunatly I can already see that one.. hehe)
Onto my next news... I *think* I've had my cards shown on tv.. I'm not sure, but I was asked to make and send off some samples of parchment with some new products for the television.. I got them finished and posted off on Friday for the Craft Extravaganza on Sat/Sun on Create and Craft. I did watch some of it, but getting ready to fetch Mitzi, I have missed nearly all, and haven't seen if my cards were shown.. is ther anyone out there who knows?? lol. That is what I was working on this last week, the weeks previous to that, I have been doing some design work for a lovely lady called Phyllis.. The work was for her companies products, and to be shown on Create and Craft again (the show was recorded last tuesday). The program doesn't come out for around another four weeks or so, but will let you know when it's on.. Of course I don't want to show these cards,as it is really upto Phyll to do that as they were for her.. That's why I haven't had anything to show for a week or so.. But. back to the grindstone.. and some cards to show later this week I guess.
Oh well.. back on puppy watch now..
bye for now..
