Well.... today's been a bit of a day.... or a bit of a weekend in some ways!
Embarking on a new chapter and returning to learning (.... after a few months recovering from my MA and the dissertation!!!), I have started a two year course with a new cohort, new teacher and new subject area.... still therapy, but different speciality in some ways.
Coming home tonight I felt the need for a little stillness - some time to breathe and gather my thoughts, to reflect on the past two weekends and how I feel about the upcoming first assignment.
This bench was on my walk a few days ago when I was out with the floofs, Benson and Bella, and I reflected on what it meant to me when I noticed it up on top of the hill.
Stillness. Peace.
Sometimes, when things feel a little overwhelming, a little peace and time to gather our thoughts, or just to sit and 'be' is all that we may need. And today, this is just what I need as I sit here writing up this blog.
The feelings of overwhelm that develop in our lives can be for many different reasons, and it can impact us in so many different ways. When seeking support from therapy, I will always explore the best way of helping to manage these feelings, as well as trying to help you to understand how they have developed and what is creating the difficulties you are currently experiencing.
Talking to someone can help so much to help build a little tool box of techniques to help ease these feelings, both now and in the future.... and it may be that just having a little time for self-care.... a little stillness.... sitting on this bench and allowing yourself to 'just be'..... can begin to help.
The other things, we can discuss those if you would like to.... or maybe you would just like to express how you are feeling to someone who is not going to advise you on what you should do... or say... but can offer a non-judgemental and confidential space to listen to your worries.
This bench is waiting for someone to keep it company... to sit on it and allow those feelings of overwhelm to float by - just like the clouds... sometimes we can just feel a little stuck in how to do that.
Jo xx
